Exploring Instructions in Literacy

This week in Literacy the children are learning about instructions. Today we looked at some instructions and discussed why we need instructions and their features. The children picked out a heading, subheading, bullet points, numbered steps and bossy ‘imperetive’ verbs. To help us understand and spot imperative verbs we thought about whether we could act out the word and if it was a word that was ordering us to do something. We had lots of fun pretending to draw…cut…paint…stick. At the end of the lesson we looked at a recipe for pizza and picked out some features as well as acting out the ‘bossy’ imperative verbs. Tomorrow we will be working on giving verbal instructions.
